چکیده

Maize (Zea mays L.) is a member of the grass family Gramineae (Poaceae) and one oldest cultivated crops. To date, maize widely in most parts world, over wide range environmental variables signifying its global regional importance to millions people who rely on crop pursuit food security livelihoods. Now days, mixed with tef also used towns for making injera. alleviate malnutrition, protein content can be increased as high 18% by increasing prolamine (zein) fraction endosperm, but unfortunately it consequently led lysine tryptophan deficiency. Since primary majority farming systems staple rural population much mid-altitude sub- humid agro-ecologies Ethiopia, substituting conventional (CM) quality (QPM) substantially improve status greatly reduce malnutrition problem resource-poor farmers low-income that depend their food. Recent evidence indicates amino acids play biological roles lipid synthesis, bone elongation, regulation these other processes necessary linear growth. The intensities or should constantly restrained during breeding process sustain grain even when op2op2 genotype preserved. kernel, like cereal grains, includes pericarp (6%), endosperm (82%) germ (12%).Molecular marker-assisted selection, often simply referred selection (MAS) offers such possibility adopting novel approaches improving strategies horticultural breeding. Appreciative concrete achievements nutritional crops through efforts necessitate long-term investments, sustained research patience, besides continuing administrative, financial scientific support. Further extensive use MAS predictable enhancement methods marker analysis identification applicant genes commercial traits. Time savings will attained may significant cost where there are reasonable markets developed cultivars. DOI: 10.7176/JBAH/11-21-02 Publication date: November 30 th 2021

Maize (Zea mays L.).

Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation is an effective method for introducing genes into maize. In this chapter, we describe a detailed protocol for genetic transformation of the maize genotype Hi II. Our starting plant material is immature embryos cocultivated with an Agrobacterium strain carrying a standard binary vector. In addition to step-by-step laboratory transformation proced...

Genetic Analysis for Yield Potential and Quality Traits in Maize (Zea mays L.)

Abstract: Grain yield is a complex phenomenon which results from the interaction of various contributing factors highly influenced by environmental variation. Phenotypic selection cannot directly improve the characters in heterozygous crops like maize unless dissected by genetic analysis. Gene action for various quantitative and qualitative traits was explored in a complete set of diallel invol...

Phytoremediation Potential of Maize (Zea mays L.). A Review

In most developing parts of the world, the rapid expansion of industrial areas leading to uncontrolled processing and utilization of industrial products, agricultural inputs, vehicular emissions and improper disposal of liquid and solid wastes may cause soil to become contaminated with chemical hazards such as heavy metals. Heavy metal contamination of soil may pose risks to humans and the ecos...

Methods Used for Extraction of Maize (zea Mays, L.) Germ Oil-a Review

Maize oil is high in polyunsaturated fat, which is a heart-healthy fat, and low in saturated fat. Extraction of oils from oilseeds is a key step for their commercialization. The extraction process has a direct effect on the quality and quantity of protein and oils obtained. Various methods like cold pressing, solvent, super-critical fluid and aqueous extractions are in practice for oilseed extr...

Effects of aluminum toxicity on maize (Zea mays L.) seedlings

Aluminum toxicity is one of the most deleterious factors for plant growth in acidic soils because over 50% of the world’s potentially arable lands are acidic. In recent years, considerable research has been conducted to understand the mechanisms of Al toxicity and tolerance in plants. This paper reviews the effects of different concentration of Al on plant shoot, root physiological parameters s...
